The French Concession of Changning consists mostly of the small corner west of Jing’an and north of Xuhui district, with Huashan Road being the most popular and commonly known street.

Once popular only with university students for its close proximity to several universities, Zhongshan Park has undergone major development in recent years. With the opening of Raffles City in 2016 and the short, two metro stop commute to Jingan Temple, Gubei and Xujiahui, Zhongshan Park has received much attention and several housing options are now available.

Nestled in between Zhongshan Park to the north, Hongqiao to the west, Gubei to the south and Xujiahui to the east, Tianshan is well served for all occasions. With many facilities available within easy reach, Tianshan offers many condominiums to choose from for the ones who want to experience a bit of everything.

Home to one of the earliest expatriate communities, Gubei today still reflects these influences, as the early expatriates were often Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese. Many of the surrounding restaurants still serving these cuisines. It’s an excellent area with International Schools and hospitals, and it is not as remote as Qingpu and Minhang, which are further west.

Located near Jiaotong University, Xinhua Road is part of the Former French Concession along with Panyu Road, Fahuazhen Road, and Kaixuan Road. It is therefore lined with many small cafes, bistros and restaurants, which cater specifically to the university crowds – in particular international students – who are often residing in and around these areas. But its great location and proximity to the CBD and amenities makes it a great option for everyone.

The Hongqiao area of Shanghai strikes a balance between the truly suburban feeling of Huacao or Jinqiao and downtown living. Living in the area has been described by some as having one foot in the door of Shanghai.

This zone includes the Hongqiao airport, which nowadays handles mostly domestic flights, and the Hongqiao Railway station, which is the main hub for the G trains (high speed trains) and the gateway to pass through if one lives in the Qingpu/Huacao area. Housing in this exact area is sparse due to the noise pollution from the planes.
